The Food and Drug Administration have approved the PicoSure™ Laser process for the treatment of tattoo removal, lightening up of brown spots on the skin, and to treat any acne scarring with much less residual heating of the surrounding tissue of the skin.
As one of the most advanced laser technologies it is different from the traditional laser removal because it provides energy to the problem in very short bursts. It is utilized to remove tattoos, moles, age spots, and can treat acne scarring. It was approved for use in 2014 by the FDS, for the use in treating acne scarring.
A Pico second is a trillionth of a second and the PicoSure™ process can break tiny ink particles in tattoos or other skin issue, in seconds, for ease in the body’s final break down and elimination of the ink in tattoos or other substance. Former laser skin treatments required more treatments and a much longer recovery time.For tattoo removal, it works on almost all colors however for darker skin types, it is always best to perform a test area, to make sure that the change in pigmentation is temporary. In comparison to existing treatments operating on nanoseconds, laser removal by the PicoSure™ process requires fewer treatments, and studies have shown a definite improvement in as few as three treatments.
The PicoSure™ process is much more precise to pinpoint the removal of a smaller tattoo within a larger one. Tattoos can also be made lighter in shade in order to prepare for a cover up process.
Particles of ink within the tattoo are usually absorbed into the skin for elimination within 4 to 6 weeks after treatment, but results always vary depending on the individual. Though costing a little more than the older technologies, the PicoSure™ process usually requires fewer treatments, which will offset the increase in cost.
